Jurģis Krāsons. A Hero of Our Time Ilze Martinsone
Bouncing across the fields, humming a happy tune, is
an immense, ungainly, jolly figure that could be our national hero Lāčplēsis. A
strapping Latvian fellow. This Lāčplēsis figure is humming in the rich voice of
Jurģis Krāsons. The infiltration into Latvian culture of the creator of the
protagonist of Rūta Mežavilka’s animation film "The national hero" (Lāčplēsis
is more than just a self-image!) is so wide-ranging that we can put together a
homogeneous picture of the personality of Krāsons (and he really is monolithic, even
with certain signs of monumentality) only by considering the diverse segments of his
explosive activities. |
