Kaido Oles personālizstāde Tallinā Evelina Vedom, Kumu Art Museum 27.01.2012 - 15.04.2012
No 27.janvāra KUMU mākslas muzejā skatāma viena no Igaunijas starptautiski pazīstamākā un atzītākā mākslinieka Kaido Oles personālizstāde "Handsome Hero and Plenty of Still Lifes". Februārī par mākslinieku klajā nāk bagātīgi ilustrēta grāmata.
“Kaido Ole is an artist bursting with creative energy, for whom the Estonian art space clearly became too confining a long time ago.” said Anu Liivak, Director of the Kumu Art Museum. “It is interesting to observe the process of Ole’s creative maturation in the exhibition hall. The visitor can see how he has remained true to certain attitudes, such as emotional equilibrium, technical perfectionism and aestheticism, despite fluctuations in content, differences in scale, and experiments.”
The Estonian painter Kaido Ole is exhibiting a few dozen of his newest works in Kumu’s large hall. Provisionally, they could be called still lifes, although they are not simply compositions consisting of colours and shapes, but witty responses providing surprisingly cutting commentaries on the balance of today’s world. Prosaic everyday details unexpectedly come into sharp focus, but do not provide recognisable situations or secure solutions – something seems to be awry.
“As the title of the exhibition suggests, it is comprised of combinations from the inanimate world. This provides an opportunity for chatter with all the dramatics and/or wit that accompanies it, but at a level that is slightly more abstract than, for instance, the hitherto 'there-is-a-man-in-the-picture-who-is-doing-something' method,” said Kaido Ole. “I have also used as few actual objects as possible in the still lifes. Primarily, I combine materials, forms, techniques, surfaces etc. Actual objects when they appear function as citations.”
Kaido Ole was born in Tallinn in 1963. He studied design and painting at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Kaido Ole has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Estonia and abroad. Together with Marko Mäetamm, he represented Estonia at the Venice Biennale in 2003. In 1998, Ole received the annual Kristjan Raud Prize and he has received an annual award from the Cultural Endowment of Estonia on two occasions.
A conversation evening with artist Kaido Ole, and presentation of his artist’s book, will take place at 6pm on 22 February, as part of the Late Wednesdays in Kadriorg programme.
