5 applications have been submitted in total. The budgets of projects are from LTL 500 000 to LTL 700 000. On the basis of the project that has won the competition the Lithuanian exposition will be prepared in the 54th Venice Contemporary Art Biennale in 2011. Lithuania has been participating in the Venice Biennale since 1999.
A collection of fine art works created during the latter decade (2000-2010) will be presented in the project of the artist Darius Mikšys. State stipends had been allocated to several hundred authors of these works. Darius Mikšys offers new concepts of art, artist, artwork and viewer in the works; he also presents new ways of thinking about contemporary art.
The project reveals several ideas. First of all, attempts will be made to visualise the Lithuanian art collection referring to the first Lithuanian art exhibition in 1907. Also, the project of Darius Mikšys speaks about the national historiography of contemporary art as well as nationality of art. |
